The SIR, paper ballots and the Election Commission

The Bhagat Singh Jan Adhikar Yatra rallies against the SIR

7 October 2026 · Pune

On 7 October 2026 volunteers of the Bhagat Singh Jan Adhikar Yatra walked through the lanes around Dandekar Pul in Pune, through 52 Chawl, Rajendra Nagar, Panmala and part of Dattawadi, handing out leaflets and speaking from a scooter with a loudspeaker tied to it. The organisers' stated demands were that the Special Intensive Revision of the electoral rolls be withdrawn, that the old rolls be restored, that elections be held on paper ballots, that states revised under the SIR vote again, and that the Chief Election Commissioner be arrested. The placards, most of them in Marathi with a few in Hindi and English, carry those demands and the organisers' charge that the Election Commission has become a shakha of the Sangh and the BJP. Those are the marchers' words and this album reports them as theirs. Open to correction by anyone who was there.
